What is this treatment?

Neuromodulators are injectable treatments that temporarily reduce activity in selected muscles. By reducing the repeated movement that contributes to expression lines, they may help those lines appear softer. They do not add volume or treat every type of wrinkle.

Areas and suitability

Facial expression and muscle activity are assessed together. The exact areas that can be treated depend on the selected product, its labeling, your anatomy, and clinical suitability. A consultation determines which options are appropriate rather than assuming every expression line should be treated. Medical history, allergies, medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and neuromuscular conditions need to be discussed before treatment.

During your appointment

We discuss your goals, review your health history, and assess facial movement. If treatment is appropriate and you choose to proceed, small amounts are injected into selected muscles. You may feel brief pinpricks. The proposed treatment, alternatives, expected limitations, and risks are reviewed before you consent.

Recovery and potential side effects

Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising, or headache may occur. Unwanted muscle weakness, eyelid or brow drooping, and asymmetry are possible. Rare spread of toxin effect can cause serious swallowing or breathing problems; seek urgent medical care if these occur. Follow the specific aftercare instructions you receive; suitability for returning to activities depends on your treatment.

Results and ongoing planning

A change may begin within several days, with the effect developing over the following days. The American Academy of Dermatology describes typical effects lasting about three to four months, but onset and duration vary with the product, dose, area, and individual. Your plan considers your natural movement, priorities, and response over time. Recommendations and costs are discussed during consultation; results are not guaranteed.

Common Questions

Neuromodulators: FAQs

No. They reduce selected muscle activity rather than replacing lost volume. A line caused mainly by volume changes or skin texture may need a different approach.
